In 1601, the "Compagnie des marchands de Saint-Malo, Laval et Vitré" (Company of Saint-Malo merchants) armed two naval vessels: the "Corbin" and the
"Croissant" which made a long stopover in Saint Augustin Bay in Madagascar. The 1675 revolts: the town is mentioned for having participated in the “Stamped paper revolt” that took place in 1675. Modern history Trade and Privateering The Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic off the Argentinean coast, known as les Iles Malouines in French, were named as such in honour of the numerous sailors from Saint-Malo, who stopped there before passing Cap Horn towards the Pacific. St-Malo was an active Corsaire port, where Duguay-Trouin and Surcouf, specialists in privateering against the English and Dutch vessels, won fame.
